Phil Wilson

Phil is a chartered engineer with extensive experience in the design, construction and ongoing maintenance of buildings in Australia and Indonesia.

In a former life he worked for Colebrand, a company that specialises in carrying specialist and difficult repair work and was responsible for devising and supervising a number of challenging repairs and leak sealing projects. Of note were repairs at the Heysham nuclear power station in Northern England, Underwater repairs to concrete storage tanks in the base of the Brent Bravo oil rig in the North Sea and leak sealing of the "Tanio", an oil taker which broke up and sank in the English Channel.

For many years he worked for the Queensland Housing Commission involved in design, construction and maintenance work for the Commission's 37,000 stock of public housing.

In 2006 he established and developed MrFixit, a property renovation and maintenance company based in Bali building a team of engineers and tradesmen capable of supplying the standards of technical services expected by people who own property in Bali.

For 2 years he worked as a building consultant for Coffey International Development building earthquale resistant maternity units on behalf of AusAid monitoring building design and construction quality and designing MEP systems. He also designed and supervised the installation of water supply systems.

From 2007 to 2016 he wrote a regular column "Fixed Abode" in the Bali Advertiser providing technical information and advice, he uses an unusual writing style so that even the most boring, technical subjects can be both easily understood and entertaining. Many of these articles are published on this site.

He was awarded an OBE in 2003 for his role in leading the British government's emergency response from the Honorary British Consulate after the Bali bombing of 2002 in which 28 British nationals lost their lives.
